This 6 week course, 2 hours every Wednesday 2-4pm, will be taking place at Richmond Barracks in Inchicore, and is hosted by the Dublin City Culture Company.
Mindfulness is an essential tool for creative practice. When we are present in the moment, we feel calmer and we are more open to receiving inspiration that can feed our creativity.
In this 6 week course we will work with scribble drawing and simple block printing and concentrate on the process rather than the finished piece. We will repeat moving the hand in conjunction with the breath in a sort of meditative repetition.
When we are practising mindful mark-making it is the coordination between the hand, the breath and the present moment that that is our focus so that we can rest our otherwise busy minds and get into a state of flow.
Scribble drawing is drawing without an intended image. This means the workshop is accessible to everyone whether they can draw or not. It’s about reacting to the present rather than creating a finished piece.
Expect slow movement of the body, short meditations, led drawing exercises and block printing. An afternoon to enjoy without any pressure to perform.
These classes are free of charge.
